- NodeJS passes NULL for addr and 0 for addrlen to
ares_parse_ptr_reply() on systems where malloc(0) returns NULL. This
would cause a crash.
- If ares_getaddrinfo() was terminated by an ares_destroy(), it would
cause a crash
- Crash in sortaddrinfo() if the list size equals 0 due to an unexpected
DNS response
- Expand number of escaped characters in DNS replies as per RFC1035 5.1
to prevent spoofing follow-up
- Perform validation on hostnames to prevent possible XSS due to
applications not performing valiation themselves

Since commit 39d334faa5 (package/pkg-qmake: add <pkg>_SYNC_QT_HEADERS
support), the qmake-package infra recognises said variable but the
manual has the wrong variable name, which is missing the "_QT" part.
We fix that by amending the manual to document the proper variable name.

When BR2_REPRODUCIBLE is set and host-coreutils needs to be built, the
fakedate script installed to 'host/bin/date' will be overwritten by
host-coreutils.
Besides, we do not need our host-coreutils for 'date' at all; we really
rely on the host system to provide it.
Unconditionally disable installing the 'date' binary in host-coreutils.
Note that we explicitly request only ln and realpath to be installed,
but the coreutils buildsystem does not strictly obey to that, as was
already noticed in 885e6fdb8a (package/coreutils: introduce a host
variant), which added that comment above HOST_COREUTILS_CONF_OPTS:
# Explicitly install ln and realpath, which we *are* insterested in.
# A lot of other programs still get installed, however, but disabling
# them does not gain much at build time, and is a loooong list that is
# difficult to maintain...
So, we also update that comment to explain why we still anyway disable
installation of 'date'.

Since version 2.1.3 ubihealthd can be enabled without of ubifs-utils.
This also fixes usability of enabling BR2_PACKAGE_MTD_UBIHEALTHD.
BR2_PACKAGE_MTD_UBIFS_UTILS is a blind option. The only way to enable it
is to enable BR2_PACKAGE_MTD_MKFSUBIFS that selects it. ubihealthd
dependency on BR2_PACKAGE_MTD_UBIFS_UTILS makes enabling it unintuitive.

The beaglev kernel is based on the 5.13 branch, update
the expected linux-headers version to 5.13.
This has been wrong ever since the bump of the kernel version in commit
9a1bd7cc1c: the headers were bumped to
5.12 instead of 5.13.

Previously, alsa-plugins would not work if alsa-utils was installed
after it. This happened because:
1. alsa-plugins copies some files $(TARGET_DIR)/usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf.d
2. alsa-utils removes these files during installation ( rm -rf $(TARGET_DIR)/usr/share/alsa/;)
The `rm -rf` command was originally added as part of the fix for
https://bugs.buildroot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1573 11 years ago.
The intention might have been to allow for unconfiguring some options
and then rebuilding alsa-utils. However, this is a scenario that does
not work anyway.
The simplest fix for the `alsa-plugins` compatibility issue appears to
be to remove the `rm -rf` command.

Some 3rd party vendor toolchains have multiple files which match
these glob patterns. In this case, the shell script failed.
Switching to use find and xargs solves the issue.

gcc 10.x is now used by default but the kernel 4.19 used by
test_docker_compose doesn't build with it.
Bump the kernel to 4.19.204 release that contains a lot of
fixes for newer gcc.

Upstream commit [1] introduced an invocation of objcopy to generat
loader.txt. However, objcopy, if not provided with an output file, will
overwrite the input file. This is usually harmless because it will be
identical, but the timestamp is updated. This may cause 'empty' to be
newer than 'loader.txt', which causes 'loader.txt' and its dependencies
to be rebuilt during 'make install'
We provide a different set of parameters during 'make install'. In
particular, we no longer pass in HOST_CONFIGURE_OPTS, so we no longer
set LDFLAGS. Thus, there is no -Wl,rpath option that is passed in, which
causes the resulting binaries to have an incorrect RPATH.
Fix this by adding /dev/null as the output file in the objcopy
invocation.
Patch was sent upstream, but there's no mailing list, just a single
person.

GNU cpio through 2.13 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code via a
crafted pattern file, because of a dstring.c ds_fgetstr integer overflow
that triggers an out-of-bounds heap write. NOTE: it is unclear whether
there are common cases where the pattern file, associated with the -E
option, is untrusted data.

The heirloom-mailx package exhibits gcc bug 101916 when built for the
SH4 architecture with optimization enabled, which causes a build failure.
As done for other packages in Buildroot work around this gcc bug by
setting optimization to -O0 if BR2_TOOLCHAIN_HAS_GCC_BUG_101916=y.
Also introduce HEIRLOOM_MAILX_CFLAGS as done for other packages and move
the already present -fPIC CFLAG to it.

Build of gdb on riscv without host-gdb is broken since commit
4ecd247ead because BR2_GDB_VERSION_10 is
never defined if BR2_PACKAGE_HOST_GDB is not selected resulting in the

libressl is selected as the openssl provider, the BR2_PACKAGE_OPENSSL
conditition will always be used and the BR2_PACKAGE_LIBRESSL condition

Fixes the following security issues:
- CVE-2021-39240: An issue was discovered in HAProxy 2.2 before 2.2.16, 2.3
before 2.3.13, and 2.4 before 2.4.3. It does not ensure that the scheme
and path portions of a URI have the expected characters. For example, the
authority field (as observed on a target HTTP/2 server) might differ from
what the routing rules were intended to achieve.
- CVE-2021-39241: An issue was discovered in HAProxy 2.0 before 2.0.24, 2.2
before 2.2.16, 2.3 before 2.3.13, and 2.4 before 2.4.3. An HTTP method
name may contain a space followed by the name of a protected resource. It
is possible that a server would interpret this as a request for that
protected resource, such as in the "GET /admin? HTTP/1.1 /static/images
HTTP/1.1" example.
- CVE-2021-39242: An issue was discovered in HAProxy 2.2 before 2.2.16, 2.3
before 2.3.13, and 2.4 before 2.4.3. It can lead to a situation with an
attacker-controlled HTTP Host header, because a mismatch between Host and
authority is mishandled.

The language detection is falling back to the host system
Fortran compiler. An example of this is in RHEL7.9
(gcc4.8.5 20150623 (Red Hat 4.8.5-44)).
This patch bypasses detection and points to the location
where the compiler would be installed (if present). In the
cases where it doesn't exist, the detection falls through
and leaves Fortran disabled.

For MIPS64 architecture variants supported by Rust, we need to exclude
MIPS64R6, but due to a copy/paste mistake in commit
d69d40c029 ("package/rustc: add support
for Tier 1 and Tier 2 platform"), we used BR2_MIPS_CPU_MIPS32R6 for
both MIPS 32-bit and MIPS 64-bit configurations, while
BR2_MIPS_CPU_MIPS64R6 should be used on MIPS 64-bit.

At the moment of gcc 11.1.0 release the OpenRisc patches for -mcmodel=large
were still pending. They have been upstreamed yesterday as pointed in gcc
bugzilla[1]. So they will be part of gcc 11.3.0 or maybe before on 11.2.
2. Anyway at the moment if we try to build packages libgeos and protobuf

This only happens with per-package directories because then the rsync is
done. Otherwise the fontconfig installation will simply follow the
symlink.
The error of course exists for target as well, but doesn't occur in
autobuilders since it already fails for host.

commit f79a420825 (package/busybox/udhcpc.script: support RFC3442
static routes) used 'set --' clobbering the positional arguments, causing
the action argument to not be correctly forwarded to hook scripts for the
renew / bound cases if static routes are provided by the server.
As a workaround, save the action argument at the beginning of the script and
use that when calling hook scripts.

Commit 5f432df7e2 ("boot/arm-trusted-firmware: change
ENABLE_STACK_PROTECTOR value when disabled") set
ENABLE_STACK_PROTECTOR=0 when disabled. But since we pass this value as
MAKE_OPT, the internal ATF logic that sets ENABLE_STACK_PROTECTOR again
based on its initial value breaks. This leads to build failure:

qt5declarative builds qmltyperegistrar for the host as part of its build
process.
When building qt target packages (which is the case for qt5declarative),
-spec devices/linux-buildroot-g++ is passed to qmake in QT5_QMAKE
variable and this spec currently has -latomic in its LIBS.
This -latomic makes it to the build of the host build of
qmltyperegistrar which is not useful.
This was discovered on Fedora 34 where libatomic is not pulled with gcc
package, therefore was missing on the host machine.
This makes sure that -latomic is not added for host build of qt
packages.

Since commit
cf176128ec ("boot/arm-trusted-firmware:
add SSP option"), we are passing ENABLE_STACK_PROTECTOR=none when we
want to disable SSP usage in TF-A. While this works fine in recent
versions of TF-A, older versions such as TF-A will end up passing
-fstack-protector-none in this situation, which fails as this is not a
valid gcc option (the valid gcc option is -fno-stack-protector).
To solve this, we pass ENABLE_STACK_PROTECTOR=0 which was in older
TF-A versions used to say "don't do anything with SSP", and is also
still supported in newer versions of TF-A.

Since qemu started using ninja, they have the following fragment in the
Makefile:
MAKE.n = $(findstring n,$(firstword $(MAKEFLAGS)))
NINJAFLAGS = ... $(if $(MAKE.n), -n) ...
Buildroot's generated makefile in the O= directory invokes make in the
base buildroot with --no-print-directory. However, make's placement of
the --no-print-directory in MAKEFLAGS varies between the versions of
the host make; make 4.3 places that at the end while make 3.82 places
it at the beginning. As a result, if building on a system with an older
host make, qemu's makefile invokes `ninja -n` which does not generate
any outputs.
To reproduce, on a CentOS 7 machine or docker image:
mkdir /tmp/br-build && cd /tmp/br-build
make -C ~/buildroot pc_x86_64_bios_defconfig O=`pwd`
make menuconfig # Switch to glibc, enable "QEMU" and "QEMU tools"
make all # Build succeeds
find target -name qemu-img # No binary has been built

RISC-V 32-bit was special cased to use glibc master as support was not

After more than a decade, libESMTP version 1.0.6 is superceded. Despite
proving robust a little bitrot has occurred, especially regarding
OpenSSL support. The original application data APIs are prone to memory
leaks and are deprecated in favour of safer replacements. Version 1.1
updates libESMTP without breaking API and ABI compatibility and
provides a basis for future development.
In addition to updates to the codebase, documentation is modernised and
is more comprehensive.
All libESMTP users are encouraged to upgrade from version 1.0.6.
- Update license files
- Update indentation in hash file (two spaces)
- Switch to meson-package
- Handle threads and tls meson options

The pixman package exhibits gcc bug 101737 when built for the SH4
architecture with optimization enabled, which causes a build failure.
As done for other packages in Buildroot work around this gcc bug by
setting optimization to -O0 if BR2_TOOLCHAIN_HAS_GCC_BUG_101737=y.
Also let's add PIXMAN_CFLAGS and pass the Codesourcery work around CFLAGS
to it for consistency like we do for the rest of the packages.

usbguard needs a crypto backend otherwise the build will fail on:

configure: error: The selected crypto backend library is not available.
So select sodium as the default crypto backend as this is the default
choice in configure.ac.

During the compile_all.py step of host-python3. This issue is reported
upstream at https://bugs.python.org/issue43498, and while not yet
fixed upstream, a PR was proposed with a possible fix for it. Seems
the PR seems reasonable, let's give it a chance and see if it improves
the situation.

Use Buildroot's setting for optimization, zstd's build system
overrides CFLAGS (adds -O3), but MOREFLAGS can override again.
Quick tests show that using -O2 (like buildroot)
is actually a little faster than -O3 on x86_64 Atoms.
Disable the legacy format, these are just needed for
decompressing files created with pre-release version.

Dynamic build without threads is broken since bump to version 1.5.0 in
commit aad8bbf588
Indeed, dynamic library is built with threads support since
https://github.com/facebook/zstd/commit/91465e23b2710de031a762874cafb417f8b7556e
To fix this build failure, add -nomt if needed however libzstd-nomt is a
"special target that builds a library in single-thread mode _and_
without zstdmt_compress.c". For an unknown reason, this target fails to
build and don't create any symlinks so replace libzstd-{mt,nomt} by
lib-{mt,nomt} even if this will have the side effect of building a
shared and a static version of the library.
Move the existing HAVE_THREAD setting in the same condition.
While at it, also replace "libzstd.a libzstd" by "lib"

Set back -fPIC in CFLAGS which was wrongly removed as a side effect of
commit c5ca521e23.
Another side-effect of that commit was to remove
-DSYSCONFDIR="\"$(PREFIX)/etc/openzwave/\"" - however, we don't need
SYSCONFDIR to be set, since /etc/openzwave is checked first anyway (see
cpp/src/Options.cpp).

This restricts the Erlang RISC-V update from
0bab8c1089 to only enabling RISCV_64
rather than enabling builds on all platforms with toolchains that
include atomics.
This fixes build errors on SPARCv8 and other platforms that look like
