- Remove soon-to-be-dead @redhat address.
- Jeff Hartmann wrote the bulk of the original backend code, and should
at least get a mention in the MODULE_AUTHOR for backend.o
- Various people at Intel have done a lot more work than myself on the

I was puzzled why /proc/$$/stack had disappeared, until I figured out I
had disabled the last debug option that did a 'select STACKTRACE'. This
patch makes the option show up at config time, so it can be enabled
without enabling any of the more heavyweight debug options.

This was an optimization that made memcpy type benchmarks a little
faster on ancient (Circa 1998) IDT Winchip CPUs. In real-life
workloads, it wasn't even noticable, and I doubt anyone is running
benchmarks on 16 year old silicon any more.
Given this code has likely seen very little use over the last decade,

The error path of uncore_type_init() frees up any allocations
that were made along the way, but it relies upon type->pmus
being set, which only happens if the function succeeds. As
type->pmus remains null in this case, the call to
uncore_type_exit will do nothing.
Moving the assignment earlier will allow us to actually free
those allocations should something go awry.

This has been this way for years, and every time I stumble across it I
lose my lunch. After coming across it for the nth time in the Coverity

it.
This ignores the 79 column limit in favor of making it look like C
instead of gibberish.
The correct thing to do here would be to lose some of the indentation by
breaking this function up into several smaller ones. I might do that at
some point if I have the stomach to look at this again.
(Also some of those overlong ternary operations would likely be more
readable as regular if's)

There are some suspicious looking lines of code in the new ccp driver, including
one that assigns a variable to itself, and another that overwrites a previous assignment.
This may have been a cut-and-paste error where 'src' was forgotten to be changed to 'dst'.

On kmem_cache_create_memcg() error path we set 'err', but leave 's' (the
new cache ptr) undefined. The latter can be NULL if we could not
allocate the cache, or pointing to a freed area if we failed somewhere
later while trying to initialize it. Initially we checked 'err'
immediately before exiting the function and returned NULL if it was set
ignoring the value of 's':
out_unlock:
...
if (err) {
/* report error */
return NULL;
}
return s;
Recently this check was, in fact, broken by commit f717eb3abb ("slab:
do not panic if we fail to create memcg cache"), which turned it to:
out_unlock:
...
if (err && !memcg) {
/* report error */
return NULL;
}
return s;
As a result, if we are failing creating a cache for a memcg, we will
skip the check and return 's' that can contain crap. Obviously, commit
f717eb3abb intended not to return crap on error allocating a cache for
a memcg, but only to remove the error reporting in this case, so the
check should look like this:
out_unlock:
...
if (err) {
if (!memcg)
return NULL;
/* report error */
return NULL;
}
return s;

__list_for_each used to be the non prefetch() aware list walking
primitive. When we removed the prefetch macros from the list routines,
it became redundant. Given it does exactly the same thing as
list_for_each now, we might as well remove it and call list_for_each
directly.
All users of __list_for_each have been converted to list_for_each calls
in the current merge window.

Two of the x25 ioctl cases have error paths that break out of the function without
unlocking the socket, leading to this warning:

Also remove another commented out open-coded list manipulation while we're there.
