lov_getstripe() calls set_fs(KERNEL_DS) so that it can handle a struct
lov_user_md pointer from user- or kernel-space. This changes the
behavior of copy_from_user() on SPARC and may result in a misaligned
access exception which in turn oopses the kernel. In fact the
relevant argument to lov_getstripe() is never called with a
kernel-space pointer and so changing the address limits is unnecessary
and so we remove the calls to save, set, and restore the address
limits.

I have been having a lot of unexplainable crashes in osc_lru_shrink

this patch that slip under the radar somehow that incorrectly
converted while loop for lru list iteration into
list_for_each_entry_safe totally ignoring that in the body of

Not sure why it was not showing up right away, perhaps some of the

It used to be the case that state had an rwlock that was locked for write
by downgrades, but for read for upgrades (opens). Well, the problem is
if there are two competing opens for the same state, they step on
each other toes potentially leading to leaking file descriptors
from the state structure, since access mode is a bitmap only set once.

I noticed that the logic in the fadvise64_64 syscall is incorrect for
partial pages. While first page of the region is correctly skipped if
it is partial, the last page of the region is mistakenly discarded.
This leads to problems for applications that read data in
non-page-aligned chunks discarding already processed data between the
reads.
A somewhat misguided application that does something like write(XX bytes
(non-page-alligned)); drop the data it just wrote; repeat gets a
significant penalty in performance as a result.
