libstdc++: #ifdef out #pragma GCC system_header
In r15-3714-gd3a7302ec5985a I added -Wsystem-headers to the libstdc++ build flags to help catch problems in the library. This patch takes a different approach, of disabling the #pragma system_header unless _GLIBCXX_SYSHDR is defined. As a result, the testsuites will treat them as non-system-headers to get better warning coverage during regression testing of both gcc and libstdc++, not just when building the library. My rationale for the #ifdef instead of just removing the #pragma is the three G++ tests that want to test libstdc++ system header behavior, so we need a way to select it. This doesn't affect installed libraries, as they get their system-header status from the lookup path. But testsuite_flags --build-includes gives -I directives rather than -isystem. This patch doesn't change the headers in config/ because I'm not compiling with most of them, so won't see any warnings that need fixing. libstdc++: add #pragma diagnostic
The use of #pragma GCC system_header in libstdc++ has led to bugs going undetected for a while due to the silencing of compiler warnings that would have revealed them promptly, and also interferes with warnings about problematic template instantiations induced by user code. But removing it, or even compiling with -Wsystem-header, is also problematic due to warnings about deliberate uses of extensions. So this patch adds #pragma GCC diagnostic as needed to suppress these warnings. The change to acinclude.m4 changes -Wabi to warn only in comparison to ABI 19, to avoid lots of warnings that we now mangle concept requirements, which are in any case still experimental. I checked for any other changes against ABI v15, and found only the <format> lambda mangling, which we can ignore. libstdc++: Simplify std::any to fix -Wdeprecated-declarations warning
We don't need to use std::aligned_storage in std::any. We just need a POD type of the right size. The void* union member already ensures the alignment will be correct. libstdc++: Make std::any_cast<void> ill-formed (LWG 3305)
LWG 3305 was approved earlier this year in Tokyo. libstdc++: Simplify constraints for std::any construction [PR104242]
Partially revert r12-4190-g6da36b7d0e43b6f9281c65c19a025d4888a25b2d because using __and_<..., is_copy_constructible<T>> when T is incomplete results in an error about deriving from is_copy_constructible<T> when that is incomplete. I don't know how to fix that, so this simply restores the previous constraint which worked in this case (even though I think it's technically undefined to use is_copy_constructible<T> with incomplete T). libstdc++: Reduce header dependencies on <array> and <utility>
This refactoring reduces the memory usage and compilation time to parse a number of headers that depend on std::pair, std::tuple or std::array. Previously the headers for these class templates were all intertwined, due to the common dependency on std::tuple_size, std::tuple_element and their std::get overloads. This decouples the headers by moving some parts of <utility> into a new <bits/utility.h> header. This means that <array> and <tuple> no longer need to include the whole of <utility>, and <tuple> no longer needs to include <array>. This decoupling benefits headers such as <thread> and <scoped_allocator> which only need std::tuple, and so no longer have to parse std::array. Some other headers such as <any>, <optional> and <variant> no longer need to include <utility> just for the std::in_place tag types, so do not have to parse the std::pair definitions. Removing direct uses of <utility> also means that the std::rel_ops namespace is not transitively declared by other headers. libstdc++: Optimize std::any_cast by replacing indirect call
This significantly improves the performance of std::any_cast, by avoiding an indirect call to the _S_manage function through a function pointer. Before we make that indirect call we've already established that the contained value has the expected type, which means we also know the manager type, and so can call one of its members directly. We also know the precise type in the any::emplace functions, because we've just constructed that type, so we can use the new member there too. That doesn't seem to affect performance, but we might as well use the new _S_access function anyway. PR libstdc++/87431 re-adjust never-valueless optimizations
Avoid creating arbitrarily large objects on the stack when emplacing trivially copyable objects into a variant. Currently we provide the strong exception-safety guarantee for all trivially copyable types, by constructing a second variant and then doing a non-throwing move assignment from the temporary. This patch restricts that behaviour to trivially copyable types that are no larger than 256 bytes. For larger types the object will be emplaced directly into the variant, and if its initialization throws then the variant becomes valueless. Also implement Antony Polukhin's suggestion to whitelist specific types that are not trivially copyable but can be efficiently move-assigned. Emplacing those types will never cause a variant to become valueless. The whitelisted types are: std::shared_ptr, std::weak_ptr, std::unique_ptr, std::function, and std::any. Additionally, std::basic_string, std::vector, and __gnu_debug::vector are whitelisted if their allocator traits give them a non-throwing move assignment operator. Specifically, this means std::string is whitelisted, but std::pmr::string is not. As part of this patch, additional if-constexpr branches are added for the cases where the initialization is known to be non-throwing (so the overhead of the try-catch block can be avoided) and where a scalar is being produced by a potentially-throwing conversion operator (so that the overhead of constructing and move-assigning a variant is avoided). These changes should have no semantic effect, just better codegen.
