Tomasz Kamiński 390f3a690c libstdc++: Do not require assignment for vector::resize(n, v) [PR90192]
This patch introduces a new function, _M_fill_append, which is invoked when
copies of the same value are appended to the end of a vector. Unlike
_M_fill_insert(end(), n, v), _M_fill_append never permute elements in place,
so it does not require:
* vector element type to be assignable;
* a copy of the inserted value, in the case where it points to an
  element of the vector.

vector::resize(n, v) now uses _M_fill_append, fixing the non-conformance where
element types were required to be assignable.

In addition, _M_fill_insert(end(), n, v) now delegates to _M_fill_append, which
eliminates an unnecessary copy of v when the existing capacity is used.

Jonathan Wakely 4db88b963b libstdc++: Replace some implicit conversions in std::vector
This replaces two implicit conversions from ptrdiff_t to size_t with
explicit conversions that include unreachable hints for the ptrdiff_t
value not being negative.

Jonathan Wakely 42046a0f5d libstdc++: Use constexpr-if to simplify std::vector relocation
Simplify std::vector's use of std::__relocate_a by using 'if constexpr'
even in C++11 and C++14, with diagnostic pragmas to disable warnings.
This allows us to call std::__relocate_a directly, instead of via
_S_relocate and tag distpatching.

Preserve _S_relocate so that explicit instantiations still get it, but
make it a no-op when _S_use_relocate() is false, so that we don't
instantiate __relocate_a if it isn't needed.

Tomasz Kamiński ae54d8cb51 libstdc++: Define __cpp_lib_containers_ranges in appropriate headers [PR111055]
This is final piece of P1206R7, adding a feature test macros,
as range constructors and member operations are now implemented for
all containers and adaptors.

For consistency with the proposal, all new container operations and
helpers are now defined if __glibcxx_containers_ranges, instead
of __glibcxx_ranges_to_container.

can't prove that when the vector has sufficient excess capacity to

Jonathan Wakely aa3aaf2bfb libstdc++: Fix -Warray-bounds warning in std::vector<bool> [PR110498]
In this case, we need to tell the compiler that the current size is not
larger than the new size so that all the existing elements can be copied
to the new storage. This avoids bogus warnings about overflowing the new
storage when the compiler can't tell that that cannot happen.

We might as well also hoist the loads of begin() and end() before the
allocation too. All callers will have loaded at least begin() before
calling _M_reallocate.

Jonathan Wakely 1f6c19f307 libstdc++: Fix -Wstringop-overread warning in std::vector<bool> [PR114758]
As in r13-4393-gcca06f0d6d76b0 and a few other commits, we can avoid
bogus warnings in std::vector<bool> by hoisting some loads to before the
allocation that calls operator new. This means that the compiler has
enough info to remove the dead branches that trigger bogus warnings.

On trunk this is only needed with -fno-assume-sane-operators-new-delete
but it will help on the branches where that option doesn't exist.

Jonathan Wakely d4f7d18b3e libstdc++: Fix std::vector::append_range for overlapping ranges
Unlike insert_range and assign_range, the append_range function does not
have a precondition that the range doesn't overlap *this. That means we
need to avoid relocating the existing elements until after copying from
the range. This means I need to revert r15-8488-g3e1d760bf49d0e which
made the from_range_t constructor use append_range, because the
constructor can avoid the additional complexity needed by append_range.
When relocating the existing elements in append_range we can use
std::__relocate_a to do it more efficiently, if that's valid.

std::vector<bool>::append_range needs similar treatment, although it's a
bit simpler as we know that the elements are trivially copyable and so
we don't need to worry about them throwing. assign_range doesn't allow
overlapping ranges, so can be rewritten to be more efficient than
calling append_range for the forward or sized range case.

The __uninitialized_copy_a extension needs to be enhanced to support

Jonathan Wakely 6885407123 libstdc++: Fix more pedwarns in headers for C++98
Some tests e.g.  17_intro/headers/c++1998/all_pedantic_errors.cc FAIL
with GLIBCXX_TESTSUITE_STDS=98 due to numerous C++11 extensions still in
use in the library headers. The recent changes to not make them system
headers means we get warnings now.

This change adds more diagnostic pragmas to suppress those warnings.

François Dumont d22eaeca76 libstdc++: Use RAII to replace try/catch blocks
Move _Guard into std::vector declaration and use it to guard all calls to
vector _M_allocate.

Doing so the compiler has more visibility on what is done with the pointers
and do not raise anymore the -Wfree-nonheap-object warning.

Jan Hubicka 1d82fc2e68 optimize std::vector::push_back
this patch speeds up the push_back at -O3 significantly by making the
reallocation to be inlined by default.  _M_realloc_insert is general
insertion that takes iterator pointing to location where the value
should be inserted.  As such it contains code to move other entries around
that is quite large.

Since appending to the end of array is common operation, I think we should
have specialized code for that.  Sadly it is really hard to work out this
from IPA passes, since we basically care whether the iterator points to
the same place as the end pointer, which are both passed by reference.
This is inter-procedural value numbering that is quite out of reach.

I also added extra check making it clear that the new length of the vector
is non-zero.  This saves extra conditionals.  Again it is quite hard case
since _M_check_len seem to be able to return 0 if its parameter is 0.
This never happens here, but we are not able to propagate this early nor
at IPA stage.

Vladimir Palevich 419c423d3a libstdc++: fix memory clobbering in std::vector [PR110879]
Fix ordering to prevent clobbering of class members by a call to deallocate
in _M_realloc_insert and _M_default_append.

Because of recent changes in _M_realloc_insert and _M_default_append,
calls to deallocate were ordered after assignment to class members of
std::vector (in the guard destructor), which is causing said members to
be call-clobbered.  This is preventing further optimization, the
compiler is unable to move memory read out of a hot loop in this case.

This patch reorders the call to before assignments by putting guard in
its own block. Plus a new testsuite for this case.  I'm not very happy
with the new testsuite, but I don't know how to properly test this.

Jonathan Wakely 7931a1de9e libstdc++: Avoid bogus overflow warnings in std::vector<bool> [PR110807]
GCC thinks the allocation can alter the object being copied if it's
globally reachable, so doesn't realize that [x.begin(), x.end()) after
the allocation is the same as x.size() before it.

This causes a testsuite failure when testing with -D_GLIBCXX_DEBUG:
FAIL: 23_containers/vector/bool/swap.cc (test for excess errors)
A fix is to move the calls to x.begin() and x.end() to before the
allocation.

A similar problem exists in vector<bool>::_M_insert_range where *this is
globally reachable, as reported in PR libstdc++/110807. That can also be
fixed by moving calls to begin() and end() before the allocation.

Jonathan Wakely b7b255e77a libstdc++: Fix code size regressions in std::vector [PR110060]
My r14-1452-gfb409a15d9babc change to add optimization hints to
std::vector causes regressions because it makes std::vector::size() and
std::vector::capacity() too big to inline. That's the opposite of what
I wanted, so revert the changes to those functions.

To achieve the original aim of optimizing vec.assign(vec.size(), x) we
can add a local optimization hint to _M_fill_assign, so that it doesn't
affect all other uses of size() and capacity().

Additionally, add the same hint to the _M_assign_aux overload for
forward iterators and add that to the testcase.

It would be nice to similarly optimize:
  if (vec1.size() == vec2.size()) vec1 = vec2;
but adding hints to operator=(const vector&) doesn't help. Presumably
the relationships between the two sizes and two capacities are too
complex to track effectively.

Jonathan Wakely 4ba94abf14 libstdc++: Add hint to compiler about vector invariants [PR106434]
The PR shows a bogus warning where jump threading generates code for the
undefined case that the insertion point is a value-initialized iterator
but _M_finish and _M_end_of_storage are unequal (so at least one must be
non-null). Using __builtin_unreachable() removes the bogus warning. Also
add an assertion to diagnose undefined misuses of a null iterator here,
so we don't just silently optimize that undefined code to something
unsafe.

Jonathan Wakely cca06f0d6d libstdc++: Avoid bogus warning in std::vector::insert [PR107852]
GCC assumes that any global variable might be modified by operator new,
and so in the testcase for this PR all data members get reloaded after
allocating new storage. By making local copies of the _M_start and
_M_finish members we avoid that, and then the compiler has enough info
to remove the dead branches that trigger bogus -Warray-bounds warnings.

This implements P1004R2 ("Making std::vector constexpr") for C++20.

For now, debug mode vectors are not supported in constant expressions.
To make that work we might need to disable all attaching/detaching of
safe iterators. That can be fixed later.

Jonathan Wakely 681707ec28 libstdc++: Do not allocate a zero-size vector<bool> [PR 100153]
The vector<bool>::shrink_to_fit() implementation will allocate new
storage even if the vector is empty. That then leads to the
end-of-storage pointer being non-null and equal to the _M_start._M_p
pointer, which means that _M_end_addr() has undefined behaviour.

The fix is to stop doing a useless zero-sized allocation in
shrink_to_fit(), so that _M_start._M_p and _M_end_of_storage are both
null after an empty vector shrinks.

Jonathan Wakely 258bd1d63a PR libstdc++/89130 restore support for non-MoveConstructible types
The changes to "relocate" std::vector elements can lead to new errors
outside the immediate context, because moving the elements to new
storage no longer makes use of the move-if-noexcept utilities. This
means that types with deleted moves no longer degenerate to copies, but
are just ill-formed. The errors happen while instantiating the
noexcept-specifier for __relocate_object_a, when deciding whether to try
to relocate.

This patch introduces indirections to avoid the ill-formed
instantiations of std::__relocate_object_a. In order to avoid using
if-constexpr prior to C++17 this is done by tag dispatching. After this
patch all uses of std::__relocate_a are guarded by checks that will
support sensible code (i.e. code not using custom allocators that fool
the new checks).

	__is_alloc_insertable_impl. Replace single type member with two
	members, one for each of copy and move insertable.

Although GCC and Clang both allow these features pre-C++17 in system
headers, Clang does issue warnings with -Wsystem-headers. It can also
complicate bisection and/or testcase reduction if # line markers are
stripped, because the code won't be known to come from system headers.
