libstdc++: Fix missing __to_timeout_timespec for targets using POSIX sleep [PR122293]
The preprocessor condition for defining the new __to_timeout_timespec
function templates did not match all the conditions under which it's
needed.
std::this_thread::sleep_for is defined #if ! defined _GLIBCXX_NO_SLEEP
but it relies on __to_timeout_timespec which was only being defined for
targets that use nanosleep, or clock_gettime, or use gthreads.
For a non-gthreads target that uses POSIX sleep to implement
std::this_thread::sleep_for, the build fails with:
include/bits/this_thread_sleep.h:71:40: error: '__to_timeout_timespec' is not a member of 'std::chrono' [-Wtemplate-body]
71 | struct timespec __ts = chrono::__to_timeout_timespec(__rtime);
| ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Presumably the same would happen for mingw-w64 if configured with
--disable-threads (as that would be a non-gthreads target that doesn't
use nanosleep or clock_gettime).
libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:
PR libstdc++/122293
* include/bits/chrono.h (__to_timeout_timespec): Fix
preprocessor condition to match the conditions under which
callers of this function are defined.
* include/bits/this_thread_sleep.h: Remove unused include.

libstdc++: Avoid overflow in timeout conversions [PR113327]
When converting from a coarse duration with a very large value, the existing code scales that up to chrono::seconds which overflows the chrono::seconds::rep type. For example, sleep_for(chrono::hours::max()) tries to calculate LLONG_MAX * 3600, which overflows to -3600 and so the sleep returns immediately. The solution in this commit is inspired by this_thread::sleep_for in libc++ which compares the duration argument to chrono::duration<long double>(nanoseconds::max()) and limits the duration to nanoseconds::max(). Because we split the duration into seconds and nanoseconds, we can use seconds::max() as our upper limit. We might need to limit further if seconds::max() doesn't fit in the type used for sleeping, which is one of std::time_t, unsigned int, or chrono::milliseconds. To fix this everywhere that uses timeouts, new functions are introduced for converting from a chrono::duration or chrono::time_point to a timespec (or __gthread_time_t which is just a timespec on Linux). These functions provide one central place where we can avoid overflow and also handle negative timeouts (as these produce errors when passed to OS functions that do not accept absolute times before the epoch). All negative durations are converted to zero, and negative time_points are converted to the epoch. The new __to_timeout_gthread_time_t function in <bits/std_mutex.h> requires adding <bits/chrono.h> to that header, but that only affects <syncstream>. All other consumers of <bits/std_mutex.h> were already including <bits/chrono.h> for timeouts (e.g. <shared_mutex> and <condition_variable>). libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog: PR libstdc++/113327 PR libstdc++/116586 PR libstdc++/119258 PR libstdc++/58931 * include/bits/chrono.h (__to_timeout_timespec): New overloaded function templates for converting chrono types to timespec. * include/bits/std_mutex.h (__to_timeout_gthread_time_t): New function template for converting time_point to __gthread_time_t. * include/bits/this_thread_sleep.h (sleep_for): Use __to_timeout_timespec. libstdc++: #ifdef out #pragma GCC system_header
In r15-3714-gd3a7302ec5985a I added -Wsystem-headers to the libstdc++ build flags to help catch problems in the library. This patch takes a different approach, of disabling the #pragma system_header unless _GLIBCXX_SYSHDR is defined. As a result, the testsuites will treat them as non-system-headers to get better warning coverage during regression testing of both gcc and libstdc++, not just when building the library. My rationale for the #ifdef instead of just removing the #pragma is the three G++ tests that want to test libstdc++ system header behavior, so we need a way to select it. This doesn't affect installed libraries, as they get their system-header status from the lookup path. But testsuite_flags --build-includes gives -I directives rather than -isystem. This patch doesn't change the headers in config/ because I'm not compiling with most of them, so won't see any warnings that need fixing. Adjusting them could happen later, or we can not bother. libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog: * acinclude.m4 (WARN_FLAGS): Remove -Wsystem-headers. * configure: Regenerate. * include/bits/algorithmfwd.h: #ifdef libstdc++: Improve Doxygen documentation groups [PR 101258]
This defines some new Doxygen groups for C++17 variable templates and for the contents of <experimental/type_traits>. By documenting the group as a whole and adding each template to a group we don't need to document them individually. Also mark more internals with "@cond undocumented" so that Doxygen ignores them by default. Also make Doxygen process <experimental/simd>. For some reason, many of the class templates in <type_traits> do not appear in the "Metaprogramming" group. For example, add_cv, remove_extent, and all the is_xxx_constructible and is_xxx_assignable traits. For some reason, Doxygen doesn't include them in the group, despite doing it correctly for other traits in the same header. libstdc++: Refactor/cleanup of C++20 atomic wait implementation
This is a substantial rewrite of the atomic wait/notify (and timed wait
counterparts) implementation.
The previous __platform_wait looped on EINTR however this behavior is
not required by the standard. A new _GLIBCXX_HAVE_PLATFORM_WAIT macro
now controls whether wait/notify are implemented using a platform
specific primitive or with a platform agnostic mutex/condvar. This
patch only supplies a definition for linux futexes. A future update
could add support __ulock_wait/wake on Darwin, for instance.
The members of __waiters were lifted to a new base class. The members
are now arranged such that overall sizeof(__waiter_pool_base) fits in
two cache lines (on platforms with at least 64 byte cache lines). The
definition will also use destructive_interference_size for this if it is
available.
The __waiters type is now specific to untimed waits, and is renamed to
__waiter_pool. Timed waits have a corresponding __timed_waiter_pool
type. Much of the code has been moved from the previous __atomic_wait()
free function to the __waiter_base template and a __waiter derived type
is provided to implement the un-timed wait operations. A similar change
has been made to the timed wait implementation.
The __atomic_spin code has been extended to take a spin policy which is
invoked after the initial busy wait loop. The default policy is to
return from the spin. The timed wait code adds a timed backoff spinning
policy. The code from <thread> which implements this_thread::sleep_for,
sleep_until has been moved to a new <bits/std_thread_sleep.h> header
which allows the thread sleep code to be consumed without pulling in the
whole of <thread>.
The entry points into the wait/notify code have been restructured to
support either -
* Testing the current value of the atomic stored at the given address
and waiting on a notification.
* Applying a predicate to determine if the wait was satisfied.
The entry points were renamed to make it clear that the wait and wake
operations operate on addresses. The first variant takes the expected
value and a function which returns the current value that should be used
in comparison operations, these operations are named with a _v suffix
(e.g. 'value'). All atomic<_Tp> wait/notify operations use the first
variant. Barriers, latches and semaphores use the predicate variant.
This change also centralizes what it means to compare values for the
purposes of atomic<T>::wait rather than scattering through individual
predicates.
This change also centralizes the repetitive code which adjusts for
different user supplied clocks (this should be moved elsewhere
and all such adjustments should use a common implementation).
This change also removes the hashing of the pointer and uses
the pointer value directly for indexing into the waiters table.
