Nathaniel Shead 6a4d1c374e libgcc, libstdc++: Make declarations no longer TU-local [PR115126]
In C++20, modules streaming check for exposures of TU-local entities.
In general exposing internal linkage functions in a header is liable to
cause ODR violations in C++, and this is now detected in a module
context.

This patch goes through and removes 'static' from many declarations
exposed through libstdc++ to prevent code like the following from
failing:

  export module M;
  extern "C++" {
    #include <bits/stdc++.h>
  }

Since gthreads is used from C as well, we need to choose whether to use
'inline' or 'static inline' depending on whether we're compiling for C
or C++ (since the semantics of 'inline' are different between the
languages). Additionally we need to remove static global variables, so
we migrate these to function-local statics to avoid the ODR issues.

There doesn't seem to be a good workaround for weakrefs, so I've left
them as-is and will work around it in the modules streaming code to
consider them as not TU-local.

The same issue occurs in the objective-C specific parts of gthreads, but
I'm not familiar with the surrounding context and we don't currently
test modules with Objective C++ anyway so I've left it as-is.

	PR libstdc++/115126

Jonathan Wakely c7f6537db9 libstdc++: Implement std::out_ptr and std::inout_ptr for C++23 [PR111667]
This implements that changes from P1132R8, including optimized paths for
std::shared_ptr and std::unique_ptr.

For std::shared_ptr we pre-allocate a new control block in the
std::out_ptr_t constructor so that the destructor is non-throwing. This
requires some care because unlike the shared_ptr(Y*, D, A) constructor,
we don't want to invoke the deleter if allocating the control block
throws, because we don't own any pointer yet. In order to avoid the
unwanted deleter invocation, we create the control block manually. We
also want to avoid invoking the deleter on a null pointer on
destruction, so we destroy the control block manually if there is no
pointer to take ownership of.

For std::unique_ptr and for raw pointers, the out_ptr_t object hands out
direct access to the pointer, so that we don't have anything to do
(except possibly assign a new deleter) in the ~out_ptr_t destructor.

These optimizations avoid requiring additional temporary storage for the
pointer (and optional arguments), and avoid additional instructions to
copy that pointer into the smart pointer at the end.

Jonathan Wakely 7ffa63df8f libstdc++: Only declare feature test macros in standard headers
This change moves the definitions of feature test macros (or strictly
speaking, the requests for <bits/version.h> to define them) so that only
standard headers define them. For example, <bits/shared_ptr.h> will no
longer define macros related to std::shared_ptr, only <memory> and
<version> will define them. This means that __cpp_lib_shared_ptr_arrays
will not be defined by <future> or by other headers that include
<bits/shared_ptr.h>. It will only be defined when <memory> has been
included. This will discourage users from relying on transitive
includes.

As a result, internal headers that need to query the macros should use
the internal macros like __glibcxx_shared_ptr_arrays instead of
__cpp_lib_shared_ptr_arrays, as those internal macros are defined by the
internal headers after icluding <bits/version.h>. There are some
exceptions to this rule, because __cpp_lib_is_constant_evaluated is
defined by bits/c++config.h and so is available everywhere, and
__cpp_lib_three_way_comparison is defined by <compare> which several
headers are explicitly specified to include, so its macro is guaranteed
to be usable too.

N.B. not many internal headers actually need an explicit include of
<bits/version.h>, because most of them include <type_traits> and so get
all the __glibcxx_foo internal macros from there.

Jonathan Wakely b8806796ec libstdc++: Ensure all feature test macros have type long [PR87193]
This defines all the __cpp_lib_xxx macros as type long, as required by
the standard. We had an inconsistent mix of int and long, sometimes even
for the same macro name.

The __cpp_lib_experimental_xxx macros are left as type int, because
that's what it says in the relevant TS specs.

Jonathan Wakely 9a0b518a82 libstdc++: Add C++20 std::make_shared enhancements (P0674R1)
This adds the overloads of std::make_shared and std::allocate_shared for
creating arrays, added to C++20 by P0674R1.

It also adds std::make_shared_for_overwrite, added to C++20 by P1020R1
(and renamed by P1973R1). The std::make_unique_for_overwite overloads
are already supported.

The original std::make_shared overload is changed to construct a
shared_ptr directly instead of calling std::allocate_shared. This
removes a function call at runtime, and avoids having to do overload
resolution for std::allocate_shared, now that there are five overloads
of it.

Allocating a shared array is done by a new __shared_count constructor.
An array is allocated with space for additional elements at the end and
an instance of new _Sp_counted_array class template is constructed in
that unused capacity.

The non-array form of std::make_shared_for_overwrite uses the same
__shared_count constructor as the original std::make_shared overload,
but a new partial specialization of _Sp_counted_ptr_inplace is selected
when the allocator's value_type is the new _Sp_overwrite_tag type. That
new partial specialization default-initializes its contained object and
destroys it with a destructor call rather than using the allocator.

Despite being C++20 features, this implementation only uses concepts
conditionally, with workarounds when they are not supported. This allows
it to work with older non-GCC compilers (Clang 9 and icc 2021). At some
point we can simplify the code by removing the workarounds.

Jonathan Wakely b1e7c6fce1 libstdc++: Reduce header dependencies in and on <memory>
By moving std::make_obj_using_allocator and the related "utility
functions for uses-allocator construction" to a new header, we can avoid
including the whole of <memory> in <scoped_allocator> and
<memory_resource>.

In order to simplify the implementation of those utility functions they
now use concepts unconditionally. They are no longer defined if
__cpp_concepts is not defined. To simplify the code that uses those
functions I've introduced a __cpp_lib_make_obj_using_allocator feature
test macro (not specified in the standard, which might be an oversight).
That allows the code in <memory_resource> and <scoped_allocator> to
check the feature test macro to decide whether to use the new utilities,
or fall back to the C++17 code.

At the same time, this reshuffles some of the headers included by
<memory> so that they are (mostly?) self-contained. It should no longer
be necessary to include other headers before <bits/shared_ptr.h> when
other parts of the library want to use std::shared_ptr without including
the whole of <memory>.

Jonathan Wakely 945151b7f1 libstdc++: Simplify std::shared_ptr construction from std::weak_ptr
The _M_add_ref_lock() and _M_add_ref_lock_nothrow() members of
_Sp_counted_base are very similar, except that the former throws an
exception when the use count is zero and the latter returns false. The
former (and its callers) can be implemented in terms of the latter.
This results in a small reduction in code size, because throwing an
exception now only happens in one place.

Jonathan Wakely 10f26de915 PR libstdc++/87431 re-adjust never-valueless optimizations
Avoid creating arbitrarily large objects on the stack when emplacing
trivially copyable objects into a variant. Currently we provide the
strong exception-safety guarantee for all trivially copyable types, by
constructing a second variant and then doing a non-throwing move
assignment from the temporary. This patch restricts that behaviour to
trivially copyable types that are no larger than 256 bytes. For larger
types the object will be emplaced directly into the variant, and if its
initialization throws then the variant becomes valueless.

Also implement Antony Polukhin's suggestion to whitelist specific types
that are not trivially copyable but can be efficiently move-assigned.
Emplacing those types will never cause a variant to become valueless.
The whitelisted types are: std::shared_ptr, std::weak_ptr,
std::unique_ptr, std::function, and std::any. Additionally,
std::basic_string, std::vector, and __gnu_debug::vector are whitelisted
if their allocator traits give them a non-throwing move assignment
operator. Specifically, this means std::string is whitelisted, but
std::pmr::string is not.

As part of this patch, additional if-constexpr branches are added for
the cases where the initialization is known to be non-throwing (so the
overhead of the try-catch block can be avoided) and where a scalar is
being produced by a potentially-throwing conversion operator (so that
the overhead of constructing and move-assigning a variant is avoided).
These changes should have no semantic effect, just better codegen.

	PR libstdc++/87431 (again)

Jonathan Wakely fb54aa5915 PR libstdc++/88782 avoid ODR problems in std::make_shared
The old version of _Sp_counted_ptr_inplace::_M_get_deleter (up to GCC
8.2.0) expects to be passed a real std::typeinfo object, so mixing that
with the new definition of the __shared_ptr constructor (which always
passes the fake tag) leads to accessing the fake object as a real
std::typeinfo. Instead of trying to make it safe to mix the old and new
definitions, just stop using that function. By passing a reference to
__shared_ptr::_M_ptr to the __shared_count constructor it can be set
directly, without needing to obtain the pointer via the _M_get_deleter
back-channel. This avoids a virtual dispatch (which fixes PR 87514).

This means that code built against new libstdc++ headers doesn't use
_M_get_deleter at all, and so make_shared works the same whether RTTI is
enabled or not.

Also change _M_get_deleter so that it checks for a real type_info object
even when RTTI is disabled, by calling a library function. Unless
libstdc++ itself is built without RTTI that library function will be
able to test if it's the right type_info. This means the new definition
of _M_get_deleter can handle both the fake type_info tag and a real
type_info object, even if built without RTTI.

If linking to objects built against older versions of libstdc++ then if
all objects use -frtti or all use -fno-rtti, then the caller of
_M_get_deleter and the definition of _M_get_deleter will be consistent
and it will work. If mixing -frtti with -fno-rtti it can still fail if
the linker picks an old definition of _M_get_deleter and an old
__shared_ptr constructor that are incompatible. In that some or all
objects might need to be recompiled.
