Tomasz Kamiński 72430fff7b libstdc++: Use smallest possible integer for __generate_cannonical_any
If the span of the range R produced by uniform bit generator U passed to
generate_canonical is not power of two, we need to use algorithm that
requires computing power R^k that is greater than 2^d, where d is number
of digits in mantissa of _RealT. Previously we have used an integer type
that is has twice as many digits as d. This lead to situation that for
standard engines that produced such range (like std::minstd_rand0,
std::minstd_rand, std::ranlux24, ....) 256bit integer support was
required for 128bit floats. However, in this cases R^4 provides more
than d bits of precision, while requiring 124 bits.

We overestimate the number of required bits, by computing a value
l * bit_width(R) (log2(R) + 1), where l is value such that log2(R) * l >= d.
As R >= 2^log2(R), then R^l >= (2^log2(R))^l == 2^(log(R) * l) >= 2^d,
so k+1 >= l >= k. In consequence R^k is smaller R^l which require at most
l * bit_width(R). This is an overestimate, but difference should not be
higher than l bits.

We replace __gen_can_pow and __gen_can_rng_calls_needed with
__gen_canon_log(v, b), which computes the largest power of b that fits into v.
As such a number is smaller than v, the result will always fit in it's type.
Both the logarithm and the power value are returned using
__gen_canon_log_res struct.

Jonathan WakelyandJakub Jelinek 12084561db libstdc++: Implement std::philox_engine for targets without __int128
This moves the __detail::_Select_uint_least_t<N>::type class to
namespace scope and extends it with more 128-bit arithmetic operations,
implemented in terms of uint64_t.

Now std::philox_engine can use _Select_uint_least_t<w*2>::type instead
of __uint128_t, so that it works on targets without 128-bit integers.
This also means that targets that do support __uint128_t only use it
when actually necessary, so that we use uint64_t when generating a
32-bit result (e.g. with std::philox4x32).

libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:

	* include/bits/random.h [!__SIZEOF_INT128__] (__rand_uint128):
	Refactor and rename _Select_uint_least_t<128>::type to a new
	class. Make all members constexpr. Add new member functions for

Jonathan Wakely 8372629e97 libstdc++: Move new std::generate_canonical to inline namespace
This ensures that the new definition of std::generate_canonical has a
different mangled name from the old one, so that TUs compiled with GCC
16 will be sure to use the new definition, even if the linker also sees
a symbol instantiated from the old definition. We use the same _V2
inline namespace as used elsewhere (std::_V2::condition_variable,
std::_V2::__rotate, and std::chrono::_V2::system_clock), and use a macro
to add it conditionally so that it's not used for the ABI-unstable
gnu-versioned-namespace configuration.

We can simplify the 26_numerics/random/pr60037-neg.cc test to only use
one dg-error without a line number, so that it matches any of the three
relevant static_assert failures for this test: the one from _Adaptor in
<bits/random.h> and the ones from the new and old definitions of
std::generate_canonical in <bits/random.tcc>. Without this change, the
line number for the dg-error matching the <bits/random.tcc> error
depends on the _GLIBCXX_USE_OLD_GENERATE_CANONICAL macro, which is
awkward to depend on in the test (because DejaGnu sees all dg-error
directives, it doesn't care if they're guarded by #ifdef preprocessor
checks).

libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:

	* include/bits/random.h [!_GLIBCXX_USE_OLD_GENERATE_CANONICAL]
	(generate_canonical): Use inline namespace _V2.
	* include/bits/random.tcc [!_GLIBCXX_USE_OLD_GENERATE_CANONICAL]
	(generate_canonical): Likewise.
	* testsuite/26_numerics/random/pr60037-neg.cc: Remove lineno so
	that one dg-error matches both diagnostics.

Jakub Jelinek 45ab93d9af non-gcc: Remove trailing whitespace
I've tried to build stage3 with
-Wleading-whitespace=blanks -Wtrailing-whitespace=blank -Wno-error=leading-whitespace=blanks -Wno-error=trailing-whitespace=blank
added to STRICT_WARN and that expectably resulted in about
2744 unique trailing whitespace warnings and 124837 leading whitespace
warnings when excluding *.md files (which obviously is in big part a
generator issue). Others from that are generator related, I think those
need to be solved later.

The following patch just fixes up the easy case (trailing whitespace),
which could be easily automated:
for i in `find . -name \*.h -o -name \*.cc -o -name \*.c | xargs grep -l '[ 	]$' | grep -v testsuite/`; do sed -i -e 's/[ 	]*$//' $i; done
I've excluded files which I knew are obviously generated or go FE.

Is there anything else we'd want to avoid the changes?

Due to patch size, I've split it between gcc/ part
and rest (include/, libiberty/, libgcc/, libcpp/, libstdc++-v3/;
this part).

Jonathan Wakely c9ce332b55 libstdc++: Use 128-bit arithmetic for std::linear_congruential_engine [PR87744]
For 32-bit targets without __int128 we need to implement the LCG
transition function by hand using 64-bit types.

We can also slightly simplify the __mod function by using if-constexpr

Jonathan Wakely 1f378f6dd3 libstdc++: Stop using _GLIBCXX_USE_C99_MATH_TR1 in <cmath>
Similar to the three commits r14-908, r14-909 and r14-910, the
_GLIBCXX_USE_C99_MATH_TR1 macro is misleading when it is also used for
<cmath>, not only for <tr1/cmath> headers. It is also wrong, because the
configure checks for TR1 use -std=c++98 and a target might define the
C99 features for C++11 but not for C++98.

Add separate configure checks for the <math.h> functions using
-std=c++11 for the checks. Use the new macro defined by those checks in
the C++11-specific parts of <cmath>, and in <complex>, <random> etc.

The check that defines _GLIBCXX_NO_C99_ROUNDING_FUNCS is only needed for
the C++11 <cmath> checks, so remove that from GLIBCXX_CHECK_C99_TR1 and
only do it for GLIBCXX_ENABLE_C99.

Jonathan Wakely 26c68b8c31 libstdc++: Fix std::random_device::entropy() for non-posix targets
Since the r12-4515-g58f339fc5eaae7 change std::random_device::entropy()
returns non-zero for hardware sources such as RDRAND. However, the call
to the underlying _M_getentropy function is conditionally compiled
according to #if _GLIBCXX_USE_DEV_RANDOM which means it only happens for
targets that support /dev/random and /dev/urandom. This means entropy()
always returns zero for x86 Windows, even though the RDRAND and RDSEED
sources work there.

The _M_getentropy() function is always compiled into the library, it
just doesn't get called for targets without /dev/random. We can change
that just by removing the #if conditional. This is not an ABI change,
because new code will just start calling the existing _M_getentropy
function, old code that has inlined entropy() will not call it.

Similarly, the std::random_device destructor doesn't call the underlying
_M_fini function unless _GLIBCXX_USE_DEV_RANDOM is defined. That's less
of a problem because it's still true that the only resources that need
to be freed are when one of /dev/random or /dev/urandom has been opened
for reading, which is only possible when _GLIBCXX_USE_DEV_RANDOM is
defined. The _M_fini function does also destroy a random engine object
if a std::linear_congruential_engine object is used, but that destructor
is trivial and so no resources are leaked if it's not called. Remove the
preprocessor condition in the destructor too, so that we always call the
_M_fini function even if it doesn't have side effects. This makes the
destructor non-trivial for Windows and bare metal targets, but as the
class is non-copyable that shouldn't cause any ABI change in practice.

libstdc++-v3/ChangeLog:

	* include/bits/random.h (random_device) [!_GLIBCXX_USE_DEV_RANDOM]:
	Always call _M_fini and _M_getentropy.

Jonathan Wakely a64775a0ed libstdc++: Make 16-bit std::subtract_with_carry_engine work [PR107466]
This implements the proposed resolution of LWG 3809, so that
std::subtract_with_carry_engine can be used with a 16-bit result_type.
Currently this produces a narrowing error when instantiating the
std::linear_congruential_engine to create the initial state. It also

Jonathan Wakely 6963c3b9ed libstdc++: Improve Doxygen documentation groups [PR 101258]

as a whole and adding each template to a group we don't need to document
them individually.

Also mark more internals with "@cond undocumented" so that Doxygen

For some reason, many of the class templates in <type_traits> do not
appear in the "Metaprogramming" group. For example, add_cv,

Jonathan Wakely 60d9f25487 libstdc++: Prefer double to long double in std::shuffle_order_engine
The transition algorithm for std::shuffle_order_engine uses long double
to ensure that the value (max() - min() + 1) can be accurately
represented, to avoid bias in the shuffling. However, when the base
engine's range is small enough we can avoid slower long double
arithmetic by using double. For example, long double is unnecessary for
any base engine returning 32-bit values.

Jonathan Wakely 160e95dc3d libstdc++: Fix undefined behaviour in random dist serialization (PR93205)
The deserialization functions for random number distributions fail to
check the stream state before using the extracted values. In some cases
this leads to using indeterminate values to resize a vector, and then
filling that vector with indeterminate values.

No values that affect control flow should be used without checking that a
good value was read from the stream.

Additionally, where reasonable to do so, defer modifying any state in
the distribution until all values have been successfully read, to avoid
modifying some of the distribution's parameters and leaving others
unchanged.

Jonathan Wakely b0c0d878a8 PR libstdc++/85494 use rdseed and rand_s in std::random_device
Add support for additional sources of randomness to std::random_device,
to allow using RDSEED for Intel CPUs and rand_s for Windows. When
supported these can be selected using the tokens "rdseed" and "rand_s".
For *-w64-mingw32 targets the "default" token will now use rand_s, and
for other i?86-*-* and x86_64-*-* targets it will try to use "rdseed"
first, then "rdrand", and finally "/dev/urandom".

To simplify the declaration of std::random_device in <bits/random.h> the
constructors now unconditionally call _M_init instead of _M_init_pretr1,
and the function call operator now unconditionally calls _M_getval. The
library code now decides whether _M_init and _M_getval should use a real
source of randomness or the mt19937 engine.

Existing code compiled against old libstdc++ headers will still call
_M_init_pretr1 and _M_getval_pretr1, but those functions now forward to
_M_init and _M_getval if a real source of randomness is available. This
means existing code compiled for mingw-w64 will start to use rand_s just
by linking to a new libstdc++.dll.

Jonathan Wakely ec2e0ad5ea Fix regression in std::random_device default constructor
When the default constructor was split out into a separate function (in
r261522) I accidentally made it call _M_init("mt19937") instead of
_M_init_pretr1("mt19937"). That means it will always throw an exception,
because "mt19937" isn't a valid token accepted by the _M_init function.
